What Constitut is — and is not
Constitut publishes rankings of consulting firms across categories, tiers, and geographies, computed from public evidence under a mathematically disclosed methodology. Every position is deterministic — the same evidence produces the same score, every time, and anyone can recompute it.
A firm cannot pay to be listed, pay to rank higher, or pay to be removed. The methodology is published in full. The scoring engine is open. The evidence trail is public. What a firm gets is what the record shows.
Why this exists
Consulting is among the largest professional-services markets, and it has lacked an independent, methodologically defensible ranking body. The rankings that exist are self-described, editorial, or driven by popularity — none of them reproducible.
Buyers making consulting decisions — executives, procurement teams, boards evaluating advisors — deserve a record they can check. So do the firms doing rigorous work with no independent forum where that work is measured. Constitut exists to fill that gap: a ranking whose method can be inspected, whose data can be recomputed, and whose results can be defended when questioned.

Why anonymous
Constitut was designed by a working group whose members remain unnamed. This is a deliberate structural choice, not a pose.
The working group's answer to the pressures every ranking body attracts was to remove itself from the ongoing operation. What it left behind is what runs Constitut today: a published constitution, a mathematically specified scoring law, a public evidence trail, a signing-key chain, and a defined process for corrections and rule amendments. There is nothing to lobby, no one to persuade, no one to compromise. The record continues because it cannot be quietly retired — it is anchored in a public repository open to anyone.
Anonymity is the protocol's defence against capture. It is also its promise: no one benefits from Constitut personally, and no one can be pressured into changing what it publishes.

Constitut was commissioned by a group of individuals concerned with the state of independent evaluation in professional services — researchers, practitioners with senior industry experience, and people drawn from academia and business. They contributed the design, funded the initial development, and stepped away from operational involvement on publication of the founding record. Three commitments were made at genesis.

Keys
Signing keys are held under a multi-party arrangement, and succession is public. No single individual can act alone.
Rules
Rule changes require a formal governance process with a public notice period. Nothing changes quietly.
Code
Rankings are computed by open code that anyone can inspect and re-run. The output is a process, not an opinion.

Every objection gets a written response. Every correction is published, permanently.
What Constitut will never do
What it asks of those who use it
Constitut is a public utility. Its data is published under a permissive open licence (CC BY 4.0). Firms, buyers, journalists, and researchers are welcome to cite its rankings, embed its verification links, and re-use its data. Two requests.
Cite the specific edition
A ranking is a snapshot in time. Name the table and the period, every time.
Respect the verification chain
Every certificate links back to the signed registry entry. Displaying a certificate without that link removes the reader's ability to verify — and verification is the entire point.

Nominations

Nominations are considered by the review committee at its next sitting. The committee meets twice a month, on the 14th and the 28th, with machine triage two days before each. See the calendar. Nomination does not guarantee inclusion; inclusion depends on whether enough public evidence exists to score the firm under the published methodology.
